"WHAT did you just say?!"
"I said you are going to be married to Lisa Rivera," Joe's mom said excited. "Isn't that great?!"
"Great?!" Demi had a hint of jealousy in her voice.
"How are you so BRAINLESS?!" Joe yelled. "I don't even know her!"
"Yeah seriously," Demi nodded in agreement.
"Yes you do."
"Huh?! I don't know who the heck Lisa Rivera is."
Nick sighed and put his face in his hands at their mom's failed attempts to convince Joe this was the right thing to do.
"Don't you remember her from 6th grade?"
"You mean that black haired with glasses who was rumored to cheat on guys?"
Nick slapped himself in the face.
"MOM!" Joe put his hand out in a ‘do you hear yourself?’ fashion.
"It's just a rumor."
Demi just stood there, sighing and sad. "Umm... I think I'm going to go now," she said so slightly through the tears.
"Okay," Joe sighed.
"Bye," they said at the same time in the same sad voices.
“Umm… mom,” Nick cut in. “Can I talk to you for a second?”
“No, dear. It can wait until later. We have to discuss wedding plans.”
“I thought we were supposed to start that tomorrow,” Kevin was confused.
“Yeah, exactly,” Nick agreed.
“True,” their mom remembered. “But we DO have a planned dinner with her.”
“No!” Nick couldn’t believe his ears.
“Yes!” their mom repeated.
“NO!” Joe denied.
Several minutes later…
The family sat down for dinner. About a second later, somebody knocked on the door.
Joe stood up and opened the door. There stood a black haired girl with glasses, wearing a black and white striped jacket and a red shirt. She also had blue jeans, and… blue high heels.Wow
, Joe thought. Blue high heels with all that. So fitting. Not.
“And the disaster enters the door,” he whispered.
“Can I come in?” Lisa asked.
“Sure,” Joe responded, in an obvious ‘no way, get out of here’ voice.
Lisa looked at him weird for about five seconds, then walked through the door.
“Oh hi Lisa,” Joe’s mom said. “Sit down right there.” She pointed to a seat right next to Joe’s.
Lisa and Joe sat back down; Joe scooted a little bit to the right. Lisa scooted towards him a little bit more.
“So,” his dad tried to start a conversation. “Lisa, I hear you’re going to Nick’s school now?”
“Yeah,” Lisa nodded, pretty much not paying attention. “I love school. My favorite subjects are science, singing,” she turned toward Joe for a second, hinting that someday she wanted to be the first Jonas Sister. “Social studies, and cheerleading.”
“Ah,” Joe was uninterested. “The 3 S’s. And the C.”
“You’re in cheerleading?” his mom was interested. “Maybe we could go to one of the games sometime.”
Nick hit his mom in the shoulder. “Mom!”
“What?” she was confused. “Just an idea.”
Joe was finished with his dinner. “Can I be excused?”
“No,” his dad said. “Not until you and Lisa get a full introduction to each other.”
He didn’t want to get a ‘full introduction’. He didn’t want any introduction. He didn’t want any arranged marriage. Unless it was with Demi.
