Am I the only one who notices this?

Am I the only person who notices this?:

In almost every Nick/Disney TV show, the g irls are like "ooh, let's go see if there are cute boys" and the boys say "ooh, let's go see if there are hot chicks".

And why is it that in every show, the other person HAS to be “hot” in order for them to date them? It doesn’t matter if they have a horrible personality, no, as long as they look good is all that matters. And if they’re “ugly”, nobody cares if they have the nicest personality, all that matters is they’re “ugly”, so you can’t date them.

Seriously. -_-*

That's always bugged me. -_- And when they try to address a character's superficiality it comes off REALLY preachy or they just don't pull it off that well.

It's kind of always been that way. Teens in 90's sitcoms were like that. But then the "ugly" "undesireable" was sometimes just plain obnoxious that you wouldn't really want to see them wind up with someone. Like Screech on Saved by the Bell. He just tried too hard. Save with Steven Urkel on Family Matters.

Step by Step tried to address this issue by having a character go out with an overweight guy. He was kinda cute and all, but he came off like an ass because he'd make everything about his weight. He made a lot of jokes and stuff. I think they grew from the experience and decided to date--I think!--but you never saw him again after that. o_O

Yeah...Some adult shows can get it right, but that's a whole other thing. lol

I know what you mean.

That gets really annoying sometimes.

Yeah I agree. they portray the female characters as so shallow on Disney/Nick shows. I mean even Carly has her shallow moments. She's very boy crazy like every other girl in the tween world. Honestly it sends a bad message to young girls out there.
